Just got this email:

“Good morning Robert,

WPP’s Project Da Vinci has been named Enfatico, a musical notation that means play each note “with emphasis” or “emphatically.”  A copy of the release may be found here:

Project Da Vinci’s New Name

June 3, 2008

Well, the voting closed last Thursday and while no new name suggestion garnered a majority of the votes, the “winner” was THE LAST SUPPER LLC. Second and third places went to Snarky and Dell-Rejects-R-Us respectively. We’ll see if the fine folks at Dell/WPP take our suggestion…

Project Da Vinci Renaming Contest

May 16, 2008

It’s been pointed out to me that the folks at WPP/Dell’s Project Da Vinci have not yet made the final decision to rename themselves Synachy Worldwide just yet. I see this as a great opportunity for us to give them some better ideas. Come on, is Synachy really the best they could come up with?

Simply comment your idea(s) and we’ll crown a winner sometimes next week.

Here are mine:

Da Vinci Now Synarchy Worldwide

May 15, 2008

From AdAge: “The new WPP Group agency designed to handle Dell’s marketing-services business is expected to be named Synarchy Worldwide, a reference to a utopian political system coined in the 18th century.”

WPP Settles on Name for Dell Shop: Synarchy Worldwidehttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif

From Wikipedia: “Synarchism (from Greek words meaning “to rule together” or “harmonious rule”) is a word that has been used to describe several different political processes in various contexts.”

If the new name doesn’t pass legal review, “Sector 64” and “Refute” are other names that WPP Properties Young & Rubicam also filed earlier this year with the trademark office.

More Da Vinci Pieces in Place

April 4, 2008

There is still no CEO or permanent name, but here are some new folks who have joined WPP/Dell’s Project Da Vinci:

Joe Scangamor, previously chief financial officer for the Americas region at WPP’s Group M, will be global CFO and COO

Ken Segall, executive creative director

Valerie Hausladen, general manager of the Austin office

Kelly McGinnis, will head-up public relations.

and a bit of news on Project Da Vinci’s locations (from an Advertising Age article):
“The global agency will be headquartered in New York, the spokesman said. Other locations domestically include a large Austin office, a San Francisco office and a Miami office — focusing primarily on marketing Dell in Latin America.”

The “fine” print (a brief summary with a bit of color):
Marketing is rocket science.
WPP needs people with “unbelievable smarts” to make Project DaVinci work.
They want to build “a marketing group driven by the brightest minds, not history.”
“In fact”, like you don’t know this already their “first” (and only) “client is Dell”, so you’ll get to work only on Dell stuff all day long.
They are looking for folks to sit in cubes and work as “project managers, copywriters, art directors, and strategists.”
If you are smart and in advertising and you aren’t a good fit at Project DaVinci, check out the job postings at NASA.
